Train # 6526 - Island express

"Island express" a name which allways to come with a sweet travel plans. I am back on this train after 10 years I guess. I am quite sure that This is name is known to every Malayalee guy in Bangalore since its connecting link for thousands of bangaloreans to kerala:

I can't stop wondering (flashback ) of the plans we used to make..

-Counting days as 'after 2 days I will be on this train.
-Imagining the unique vibration (cradling of train) which will make as fall asleep.
-Wondering if any cute girl will be their in the compartment.
-Awaiting the sweet fried banana breakfast at palghat station.
-Watching the bharathapuzha river flowing alongside early in the morning.
-Sitting firm when the train passes over the ottapalam bridge( to avoid the train loosing balance and falling into the river).
-Musical thump of the train.

Guess I will goto sleep now. Hope I can capture the Bharathapuzha river early morning and railside kerala beauty.

Some other characteristics :

Need to book the seats 45 to 90 days in advance.
Has more than 20+ bogie's

The day I almost miss 2 flights...

Its obvious from above that, I miss the first one. Where do I start. Do i start with... How did I miss the first one or my Figments of my imagination or wandering thought or should I say insights or winsonomics.
Today I had to travel from Bangkok to Delhi on work. My flight was at 720hrs. People who know me already would have guessed the reason for missing my first flight. Now I feel I was late(as I have gold card and have been checking in 30 to 40 mins before departure) thought there should be any issue today as well. Some thing about me is that I love to be a JIT person; that is I love to be Just In Time(more accurate is I don't want to wait. With the negative aspect added: Others can wait for me but I can't. The JIT thing is like a close one day cricket match, with mix of suspense & thrill and once I accomplish; the feelings is as great. If I remove the negative aspect its very disciplined system. Just like an ATC managing a Runway. So I miss my flight(for the first time in my life) for which I am solely resposible. Since I have no meetings today I was safe and I manage to change to the next evening flight. Offcourse I was feeling bad and took a taxi back home and while getting down gave my finger between the doors. God its hurts like hell. It still aches but at that time I could see stars in the day. Not to waste my time I went was back at office. I have this case of inertia. Cant stop if I am loving it. Sleep in the morning! offcourse I love.

My next flight was scheduled at 1950. I leave office at 1715(again,..inertia effect), thought I shall leave at 1700). As per my calculation, i can be at the airport by 1800 being frequenter. I take a taxi near my office to goto home to pick my luggage and then off to airport. Guess what! It's the turn of the Bangkok Traffic Jam. I reach home at 1750,and in a moment was on my way to the airport. I ask the driver to take the expressway. The expressway starts smooth and within couple of minutes I find myself back of pile of cars.

The bottom line is I manage to get the flight. Thanks to checkin staff , my loyalty card on TG and no crowd at immigration. I check in at 1925 and was in by 1945. This was first time I ran inside airport and with my new shoes my legs were in an ordeal.
Coming to the musings; I wonder why do people take the car(looks like baggage of ego, personal space). I also suspect countries esp.. car making companies funds infrastructure project for. Roads & expressways. Why there are one or 2 skytrain when you have so many roads. I begin to admire the paris subway system so complex and roads with wide walkways with coffee terraces. Shouldn't we be spending time relishing the evening sun with a cup of coffee and reading your favourite author than slogging it out waiting to jump on the next piece of road. I guess traffics jams are not unique to bangkok alone.. But why the mass transit system like BRT in Delhi proposed by Sunita Narain are scrubbed off. I think we need to figure the thin line between personal indulgences/space and common good. I wonder will we be proactive or get into tight spot like today to decide.
I guess if my bosses read this blog I might get fired...by god: I decide to be 2.5 hours before at airport and i must start making use of the lounges. Now I guess I am half way between BKK and DEL.

I have one resolution decided 22 day ahead of 2010 ; That is ;
To be present in Airport 2.5 hours before a takeoff...

I am sure you know the old joke; what is it in this world that you get for Free(Apart from Smile)...Advise...from colleagues, friends, almost everyone around you(esp if you are an Asian)...and if you have to pay for it..its called consultancy...

Wonder why it so easy to Advise to others and Advising self is complicated... Guess the reasons could be when we are in problem..... the issue could be the problem shows it self as a jigsaw with many interconnected complication...or is it difficulty in prioritizing the complication ....The advisors most often see one complication and not to live with implication of choice; guess that makes it easier!!...but one silver lining is positive gesture of Help/care...

Guess i goto bed a bit smarter tonite...

Ever wonder why people want to get intoxicated with Wine, Love, Work or anything...A state of indecision, a state of loosened controll over self... a state of letting go and leting one self to be controlled by destiny, others or a state of fearing of letting go!. Wonder if i should call it stress release or lack of guts for decision , pure pleasure. The pleasure aspect is strange combination of fire n Ice....guess, i am cranky already to write this post at 2:13 in the night... Intoxicated with ....

Few days back, I joined Farmville( Game on Facebook). Normally i am not a gaming guy(yet!), i just joined this to get a feeling of farming since i am into similar industry. The concept of the game is you have virtual farm where you grow vegetables/fruit/grains as well as have cows/chicken!...You do the normal chores as plowing/seeding/harvesting/milking associated with maintaining farm...

Initially my Winsonville(as i name it) was break activity and to transforming your day dream of what i could do with my farm, Imagining walking into my farm with fruit trees around(idea from My Girl and Gladiator) with small 3 block of plowed land... it was nice to imagine having a farm ,simple life, growing some trees and flower and rest in your small tent reading your favorite author...Invited some friends, who could be good neighbours... life seem to be good..

But now, i have been bitten by the competition thing..now want to attain new level, extend my farm size and have been taking my steps as, inviting anyone to be the neighbours, buying up machinery, looking to grows crops which are profitable interms of coins,experience,levels in shortest time... why am I getting pulled into a futile rat race???

Common , I dint join this for territorial expansion, competing with anyone...why cant i be a simple farmer with few neighbors(to gossip), small cultivation of my favorite fruits and Veggies of my choice and have creative farm...I wonder!

From the days of walking through the industrial estate of HMT opposite to Kendra Vidyalaya 01 in Jalahalli, gazing(drooling ..is the right word) over the Rover standard SD1 2000 parked in one of the factory...my interest for car has changed from one to another. Ranging from Tata Indica, Matiz, Palio, Gypsy in India to Mercedes, BMW 3 X5, Jag's XK XJ, Modena, Camry, Civic, Aston Martin etc.. Sometimes the choice is based on emotives like, style, way it carries it self, ruggedness, machine, mileage,Performance, visibility around ...
Infact the taste have been changing; for example: Tata Safari was THE car, but then when i saw, Ford Escape... i felt the later more refined... now since Indica is my regular taxi, it longer carried the 'stuff' when it was launched (guess my only comparison then was a Zen). From Rover SDK to the present Fiat Linea or Chrysler 300. There has been a long list and off course more to come.
But I wonder, What if i were to stick with one car? which car would that be? which car would retain its status with onslaught of new car...Many concepts that we cannot even imagine!!.. well it’s a difficult question ...and after reflecting on each car...
I guess that would be:
Maruti Gypsy.....coz, i still love to own,drive it!

Being a lesser and a Greater Fool

Couple of days back i visited one of my relatives. This is a home of voracious readers...as soon as i entered their territory, i attacked the section which is a mini library...After going through the names..i choose two books...one… a book on Sales by ‘Ziglar’ and another from my favorite Author 'Paulo Coelho' titled 'Like the flowing river'...

I requested my cousin if he could lend the books to me which i shall return it to him by March during my next visit to the city. He agree to lend and said..."The one who borrows a book is a Fool'...Caught off guard being called a Fool, I immediately retaliated(being defensive)…I am not borrowing but i am taking it(well, taking advantage of being a close relative...off course i shall return this books by March)....but he continued... 'and the one who borrows and returns the book is a greater Fool'...I had no argument to counter and also didn't want to pursue to counter as it leads nowhere ....

Now that I have been reading this book from Paulo Coelho...I have come to understand the weight of my cousins Argument...After all.... When you are reading your favorite author....NEVER borrow but buy and own it...coz, you don’t want to return...

Many time, we are in place we are in team of two to do an common task...like in cricket...2 batsmen or a couple dancing or doubles partner in tennis,...where your indivual performance counts but also the action in resonant rhythm to deliver 1+1=3 ...you come across situation you are playing well than the other or vice versa...so in situation where in you are not in good as the other and other is blazing away...what do you do????i remember once a cricket comentator said..when Sachin Tendulkar is blazing from one side...what can the batsmen on the other end do? ....Just watch the magic happening and enjoy the moment....

I was watching the movie "stranger than fiction" ..a movie wherein an authors fiction is someone's real life... sad part is that the writer is a 'tragedy' writer...hmm...wonder if our destiny has already been written...is the author a tragedy writer, an optimist ? or an drama writer? is the author of our lives like a movie story writer, who has filled our lives with sweet ,sour, bitter, spicy tinges.... can i answer this question now, though i am 27 as of today ? what more is to come ? is the sweet or the happy part over ? (just as in movie, where the begining is live with humour and later becomes serious with a plot/struggle)?...Just as sometime, when things do not go in our wishfull ways, sould we take up the cliche phrase "Let Go"...we also do point it on destiny /fate as some one had already written that in our individual fictions...we have some many targets to reach...same with many people.. how each ones target crisscrosses is mystery...we try to be there at many places...be many persons...when i pose this questions to myself i wonder...why question? just, Live your present...

As Emma Thompson's character puts it in "Stranger Than Fiction,"

Today I met my engineering college friends (to be precise 2: coz, they are twin brothers) after 6years, and also part from a friend whom I might not be seeing for a long time (cynically thinking)…then I wonder, I would have thought the same, six years back too when we finish our course and each one was at an exit point ready to go their own ways chasing his or her destiny… No assurances or guarantees that we meet except for the cliché phrase “Keep in Touch”… only feeling that was guaranteed was/is the Hope to meet. As an old saying goes,…meets and depart are ways of life, but depart and meet are hopes of life… so guys, catch you soon…

Last weekend, i caught up with some old n close friends @ my friends new appartment ( + reason to open some wine)...We came to bangkok as part of our studies and now we end up working in BKK...

We see that, our lifestyles has changed from the days of university and now...Flashback wonders us on the things that we used to do ....You can imagine a typical students room..how,we have devised our very own indegenious systems to keep the room clean...let me list a few...

--Keep your glasses/plates/spoons in the refrigertor after use... no need to wash...
--If you have opened a can of Rosgollas, then keep the can in plate with water..so no Ants...
--Keep the flowers in the comode.
--Keep the expensive perfumes in the refrigertor.
--Keep you football jersey/Boots/Socks after playing for "Air Wash(Hang it in open air)" prior to wash.
--etc etc...cant remember nw...you can add if you remember...

Obvioulsy Thing are different now....gone are the days of Flowers/Morning football....

Are all people equal? Is a Egalitarian society pragmatic?

I once met a young army captain (in his early 30s), he said to me pointing at a old sergeant standing guard outside his door. That man is far too old to me, does that mean, I keep him on my head. We all believe in the generic rule of ‘each human life is invaluable and priceless’ then , why is it that , everyone cannot get a life insurance policy over one million euro. Guess there is a value commanded by each person, depending on how critical he/she is to the society.

Last year, there has been a military coup ( Thai Rak Thai – TRT, led by Thakshin Shinawatra was overthrown), following mass protest against then Prime minister (Thakshin Shinawatra) alleging corruption, tax evasion etc. In Thailand, there seem to be a rift between 2 sections Anti- Thaksin (majority constitute urban Bangkokians-30%) and Pro Thaksin / TRT (mainly supported by the rural massed accounting up to 70%). Due to TRT policies that were focused on the non bangkokian (so called populist policy) like 30 baht(1 USD) medical insurance, local entrepreneurship project (OTOP) etc..TRT was very popular among the non urban and also people originating from these section, but based in the capital. The TRT had a vote share of 70 % plus, and was in a commanding position and by number, cannot be replaced…Majority (number) rules…

In comparison, urban bangkokian are well educated and relatively adding the chunk of economic value. Post coup, the TRT has been banned and member barred from entering politics for 5 years. Now that the party (representing the majority) has been officially wiped off…The smaller parties are going to come in to power. Implying that small percentage of urbaners ( so called educated /modern/sophisticated) class going to run the country.

Is that Fair? Or Should the numbers(valid stake holders) decide the fate of the country (irrespective of the quality of numbers) ? Numbers would matter in the world of the equals, which is not the case. Again, economic value(a sign of the smart ones), commands the say. On the face of it may seem a anti-capitalist cliché (few rich running the masses) but I guess, that seems to be the eventual reality in all walks of life.

I guess, Democracy /egalitarian society is mirage....

Being from the Land of Bollywoood, Kolly, tolly and other woods in India...I have a strong interest and have been fascinated by the silver screen...well going to movie was not that Easy in India till by end of schooling for obvious reasons(except for the sat/Sunday movie on our Doordarshan)...Have started seeing film from my college days…most of them by logistically bunking classes and being in the theatre...

Once having come to Thailand, watching movie has been easier and more comfortable and more variety...Being in Thailand, Have got chance to watch many South east Asian Movies ( Thai, Japanese and Korean) ..of which Korean movies and even series(shhhh) have cast a spell on me...I would rate Korean film industry as one of the leaders in this part of world with movies with High caliber of Technique, People, Storyline, Art...., I would rather say that they are exceptional in portraying emotions/Melodrama...Movies are classy, elegant and beware the love stories are too mushy....
Coming to the series, the ones I have managed to see are 3-4 way love triangles…but are too mushy again…This would be good market for the teens and will be far from the Mother-Daughter in law types(saas –Bahu)…Ekta Kapoor ..hey, are you listening.??
So People , if you haven’t seen one…go n get one ...

A Coffee shop story...

Couple of days back. Me along with my friends were sitting in a coffee shop on a Sunday afternoon and catching up on each other life...the coffee shop was unusually not crowded on hot Sunday afternoon...there were some girls too sitting outside and sipping their coffee and catching up on their weekly doze of gossips( I guess!!)...

All of Sudden one girl got up and ran hastily towards the service counter, asked for something...The guy at the service counter directed her to the jug of water beside our table. She hastily pour some water into plastic disposable glass and ran out... Seeing the urgency, we thought, may be one of her friends desperately needs some water...but it so happen that , she took the glass of water to the dog drinking water from stream of water from a leak..

We were all amazed and smiling at each other with sarcasm. Is everything ok with her? In the 6 billion plus world, a considerable population does not have even access to the water that the dog was having? Judgmental question's like...is she too crazy/ too sensitive? Why is she behaving like a Kid? Then we thought, May be she want's to have a better life for things around her & she tries to add her bit...I guess that these small things, that we often turn a blind eye too, sometimes challenges our sensitivities...Though I am not adding positive or negative points for each one's individual behavior…but I was wondering, could we have a world where people are sensitive to adding value with the means they can, to the life around….....

Why dont the Indian Media go and get the Cricket World Cup???

Fact accepted : India is out of the world cup..

But then, this is a Game... I don’t think, India wasn't playing good either to be in the top 5 , except for the series in West Indies...C'mon, media is just getting into cheap act of ripping people and the team....getting max viewer ship by doing brick bashing (case analysis, discussions, and debates) as that would get them some cheap money. Just because in India this is a major sport, passionate fans who watch 8-10 hrs (time is not a luxury for them…obviously)…Does that mean they are the owners of cricket in India and have the right to do demonstration on street with burning effigies, blackening cricketers posters etc....Can the media or these people provide the solution?

If you see the ads in the ground...Hero Honda CBZ, Indian Oil.. Does anybody knows these brands outside India… Cricket is sport which keep this 500+ million people glued. Definitely the market is big and media and businesses are just there to make use of this and improve their income statements…

The Indian people and Indian media should not take the world cup for granted. I would strongly suggest, India(people and media) should accept this defeat with Humility, instead of brick bashing, and cheap demonstration on street... This reflects poorly on Indian’s as emotionally immature people...Its shame that Indian media is happy to give the multiplication effect to these unfortunate events...

Let us trust and have confidence in the Indian cricket board and team and let them decide, what should be done next...NOT the lay man or media... This is not the end of cricket for India...Lets be humble , and accept the fact and take this as a wakeup call and learn the lesson and move forward...

Should I be worried of Google???

I was just wondering the uses of my Google account. I use Google’s following tools email service(GMAIL) ,Networking (Orkut), Webpage ( Blogger)+ some other misc services. With just one Google account I have an access to all, and most of the products and tools that Google would acquire in future.

My concern is, unlike other email service provider. Google servers have access to my email . The software spider(robots) can access and read my email . It no longer private... I am just worried.. that over a period of time, Google would be the most knowledgeable entity. Knowing about my life, my friends, my views and much more that I can imagine at this stage... Now, coming to the negative side...what if the information is used against me... what about my privacy?? What if science becomes so advanced (which it will), with things like artificial intelligence, and a robot takes over...Should I Say: 'Ignorance is bliss'...

New Year & the New Me...

Its 2007, as of now 28 days have past and it's 54 minutes past mid night.. Has anything changed in this year so far?...infact, this is the only year i have no resolutions...(except for the blogging ...hehe)..So whatz new? Has Life become more of a routine? so far things are OK though, Should I accept the 'Status Quo'? may be not...what should I expect?

According to the Chinese calendar , This 2007 is the year of the "Pig”., so, does that mean...would this year be sluggish? Will I gain kG's and add on tyres around my hip?? would I be fed well and slaughtered by someone( I can feel my sixth sense nodding with high probability)...Can i have any cute looks( pigs are cute to some extent???)

Military Coup in Thailand

Tha thai military has ousted the caretaker prime minster Thaksin Shinawatra in a bloodless coup . The ousted PM is in New York to attend the UN general assembly. The Thai Political Reform Council has declared allegiance to HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The army has also declared General Sonthi as the acting prime minister with the King Bhumibol Adulyadej still remaining supreme. With the martial law being declared, schools, banks and the country's stock market have been shut down for the day.

I was wondering; man generally has certain attributes that get associated to him due to his birth in that class. He ends up giving it more value than the utility of it. Should we see those at their utility level only ??? The attributes i am referring to are ; Language, Religion, Race?

As I see, the above are perpetually evolving and is subject to changes of times. So does it matter to follow it line by line/word by word? Is it Practical? Is there a Need? Is there any absolute reference point?

Spirit of Mumbai !!

Yet another massacre of innocent civilians in Mumbai. The recent serial bomb blast in Mumbai on July 11th was terrible act of mans confused/fanatical beliefs. Cost paid by innocent civilians. I strongly condemn the perpetrators of this act and also the segment that gives positive and negative stimulus.
But from July 12th onwards, life is back to Normal in Mumbai. Many leaders ,even mumbaikars cheered it as "resilient Mumbai". The spirit of Mumbai, that resembles a city that never sleeps. On the other hand I was thinking, is it really the case????, What made people to go back to the same routine??. Trains back and running, the same rush hour crowd. I guess, the reason is "Survival". Every city finds a way to regenerate after a trauma. When people have no choice but to get back with their lives, the earnest attempt to attach an expression to them is like overstating the obvious. While Mumbai is without doubt a great city, every single compliment thrown at it could so evidently be applied to other parts of the country too. When people who usually don't take the trains have nothing meaningful to say about the blasts, they use an all-weather expression — the Spirit of Mumbai. So what if Mumbai has been bombed once again? Long live the spirit of Mumbai.

The situation now is that, the law and order system is running its full scale manhunt to find the people who are responsible for this act of terror.If in case they are caught , this is not the permanent solution to why this heinous act was committed. In India, numbers of unnatural death is stagerring. Nowadays,it is very usual to see people dying on a daily basis ( terror attacks/ accidents/ crime). here there is a almost a train accident every month,one major one every two years. Terroist related attacks( Kashmir, Maoist, naxalites) on every day basis, Accidents( road/train) every minute. Sometimes, i think( though mean) its because that we are 1 billion +. These figures looks small. have we become so indifferent?? Our sensitivity to this is too low as no one is bothered...

The law and order system is facing capacity problem. Capacity in terms of infrastructure, man power, tools enabling security and justice.The existing systems/security infrstruture cannot stop terror attacks like this again in future. People who have well understood this have only one choice,that is," Thoda adjust kariyo". I am sure the goverment has enough funds to provide the same but in efficiency at the top level effects the ordinary big time.The worse part is that,the ordinary ppl are staunch believer/doers of " hum sub kuch adjust kar lenge ( we shall adjust to anything).Politicos will cover their errors by saying ...."The Spirit of Mumbai...the resilient Mumbai"

Hopefully the city remains city inhabited with people not just spirits!!!

The Indian Government has issued an order to all Indian ISPs for a ban on various blogging sites. While no official release has been made on this front, the reasons being attributed to this ban range from it being a preventive measure to stop sleeper terrorist cells from accessing instructions contained in blogs, to a new measure to try and control the spread of information through blogs. The order was issued by Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The known list of blocked domains is *.blogspot.com, *.typepad.com and geocities.com/*.

Da Vinci Code....

I saw the movie, da vinci code...despite knowing the current rhetoric against the movie & book by the Vatican and Indian Clergy. As to the movie, I would say that, the movie is a investigative thriller, well taken, with exotic location and pro acting off course (Tom hanks), very good Background Score, Cinematography, ....watchable movie...Though I just do not subscribe to the contents/idea...Well, it makes obvious business sense to make money with the controversy and hype created by the book. The Da Vinci Code movie made $224m (£119m) at box offices around the world at the weekend.

The movie says, "the biggest con of Man...or the biggest cover up in human history...”As I see it, this movie/book is merely a hypothesis( based on aperceived understanding of Handfull of men), like many other…even the segmentation in Church, The Catholics, The Protestants and many other groups are based hypothesis/ ideas believed by many…Da vinci code is an investigative story, which is based on interpretation of paintings, secret communities, ancient rituals…leading to theory that, Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene and had child by her…There is lot of speculation…what makes it more attractive is the snob value/hype created by the secretiveness of many agency of the Vatican and the Priory of Sion... Do we need a feeble faith that is challenged on speculations? …A picture says a thousand words…but which words? It is up to the interpreter mind….Marketing the idea and selling it is a mere skill…The idea of having belief that is based on 100% truth after 2000 years is again an illusion…well there is so many blanks, manifestations, manipulation in this 2000 years…Do we need the absolute truth…is it Practical? But what is practical is an absolute belief…

What is divinity? What is humanity? This are question have no answers. It is the utility of the faith and belief that matter. What Matters is your belief, your faith and most importantly the deeds motivated by your faith, Values and beliefs…

Came across Google's social networking service called “Orkut”. This is Social networking software just as Hi5, Ringo, Friendster…All you need is Google account. As of now I like Hi5..but when it come to finding friends esp form India…Orkut rocks….

As of May 02, 2006, 70.81% of orkut's members were from Brazil, followed by 11.90% from the United States, 3.43% from India, 2.01% from Iran and 2.10% from Pakistan. That means its is easier to find friends/network /Communities from India through Orkut rather than Hi5.

A short walk from Chinatown, it is home to a thriving Indian community made up largely of Hindus and Sikh who have been living there for generations, actually since Pahurat Road was constructed in 1898 and named after Somdet Chaofah Pahurat Maneemai, the son of King Rama V.

Hello Ppl, its long time, since I last blogged....my work has taken the toll on my blogging...well, i hope to get back to my blogging tempo...What do I post now????...nothing is clicking.... let me write abt, what is happening around me....real-time commentary....hehehe

I am sitting in Hot Spot at E(Engineering) building of ABAC (Assumption University)...just finished downloading my emails, finished replying emails...here there are many Thai students. I guess they belong to some "Rotaract" club…here some bunch of students practicing some Thai songs...some time back these guys were make a group t-shirt with Rotaract written at their back...there are other guys also. One guy munching a fried chicken leg , few guys glued to their laptop playing games...some chitchatting....I find the Thai guys n gals quite creative...Nice people...

Views on Thai Political Scenario

From the last couple of Months there has been a rough ride for Thai Politics. There has been a major tussle against the Ruling party the “Thai Rak Thai" TRT led by Thaksin Shinawatra by "PAD", a coalition of opposition parties led by Sondhi Limthongkul & Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The main accusation against the caretaker prime minister are, Governance, limiting press freedom, sale of Mr Thaksin's family firm, Shin Corp ($1.9bn (£1.1bn). Critics accuse him of tax dodges and betraying the nation by selling an important national asset to Singaporean investors, his total control of the government and his way of running the Gov’t. Thaksin has been known for bringing Thailand out from the Asian Financial Crisis, and is one of the prime minister who has ruled Thailand for full term and got re-elected with landslide win. The Thai Rak Thai has got massive support base in Upcountry ( North , East , West ) of Thailand. The Kingdom’s richest man as well as its prime minister, Thaksin has been the first politician to ensure a parliamentary majority for his party.

After massive demonstration held by PAD supporters, Snap election was held on April 02. The PAD strategically chose not to contest the election, and instead abstain voting by directing its support base to tick , “ NO- VOTE” . PAD is projecting itself as more transparent party with a wide support by prominent academicians of Thammasaat / Chulalangkorn Universities. As of now, it is tough to remove TRT with its mass support hence, the choice of abstaining from election. The election was won by TRT gaining 16 Million votes( 60 %) , though there has been considerable loss for TRT in Bangkok.

As of now after wining the election with 60% vote share, Mr.Thakshin chose to resign. I guess better to Win and resign adds more value… Though it is believed that Mr.Thaksin still controls TRT. Before the Prime Minster resigned all the energy was focussed on removing Thakshin as PM , but after Thakshin’s resignation the PAD is focussing now against the so called “Thakshin Regime” … The PAD has received lot of attention and projecting itself as a National Party even in the upcountry areas, which is a stronghold of TRT….Let us see what happens in the time ahead.

PS: These are my personal view, not supporting any political party/personalities/groups. It is my perceived understanding and comments.

Bangalore Traffic

Bangalore; A City with one of the fastest growth rate, making it mark ever stronger on the world map day by day...Yet the City Struggles to grow, reason. The infrastructure is inadequate, and cannot help to sustain growth... One of the main link is the roads...The roads are pretty much narrow and the traffic is exploding...Driving a car in most of the roads between 8-10am and 5-8pm is as stressful as your whole days work...I see many people complaining about the traffic, driving discipline...But the root cause lies in inadequate infrastructure...with lowest level of policing for good driving discipline..but on the contrary, i feel the system though running on utter chaos, is quite efficient...( ask a foreigner to drive in bangalore...i m sure he would have an heart attack) What Bangalore needs is: More and more flyovers( I do not mean the flyover of the Traffic circles but , and elevated stretch of road on all major city routes)....Widening road( At least 6 lane road) eliminating most of the roadside offices ( Though seems impossible)...and multi billion dollar Mass Transit system : METRO , ELERT(Sky Train).
The Bangaloreans say that while in the rest of India drives on the left of the road; they drive on what's left of the road(Personal experience in Hosur road). In the rest of India, there's no flyover with a traffic intersection; in Bangalore, they have a traffic signal and criss-crossing traffic atop a flyover(Richmond Circle flyover). In the rest of India, one-way roads mean traffic can only move one way; in Bangalore, there are two ways traffic can move on a one-way road (any one-way road after midnight).
I have heard that in London, you need to pay extra to drive your car to work...People need to understand, that is the future…With the scale of population India has, we cannot depends on personal modes of transport for our routine ...but on mass transit system, that links every key places...The main Traffic is people going to work. So places like Peenya Industrial estate, Silicon Corridor (Hosur Road) , Air port road. We need to have Hi speed, High frequency mass transit system...I hope that we have leaders who understand this and show the political will and make this possible.

Nok Air is a Thai low-cost airline registered under Nok Airlines Co., Ltd. Nok is Thai for “bird”. It is a short, simple and easy to remember name that all Thais can relate to. Nok Air offers great prices and value for its flight. It is mainly targeted at Tourist visiting various parts of Thailand and value conscious business travelers. To my experience, Nok Air is pretty decent for the cost.
“An agreement has been reached with India’s largest low-cost airline Air Deccan that will see us working together to build our respective distribution channels,” said Patee Sarasin, CEO of Nok Air. “This is not yet a code sharing agreement — not yet. The Bangalore launch will be followed by a second service to the southern city of Hyderabad next year.” With only four 737-400s at its disposal, the time difference will enable Nok Air to fly an evening service to the two Indian cities and return to Bangkok in time to utilize the planes on day-time domestic routes.
Air Deccan, which started operations in 2003, offers no-frills travel on 234 flights each day, covering 53 cities in India. It flies 11 Airbus jets and 19 ATR turboprop planes. Though, I am not in favour of Nok Air teaming up with Air Deccan...coz, with my experience, Air Deccan is one mis-managed airlines. Just because it offers low cost, I think its still airborne...Otherwise for its frequent flight delays, Mislanding, Technical glitches...it should have been RIP...But if the new venture between Nok Air and Air Deccan mean Bangalore- Bangkok flight cost coming down considerably with pretty descent service. I am in for it...

-- Visited the Qutub Minar, India Gate, Presidential Palace(Rashtrapati bhavan), RajPath, Indira Gandhi residence, Rajghat, VeerBhumi, Shakti Sthal, Bihai Temple(Lotus Temple).
-- Met with friends at Chennai & Bangalore.
-- Travelled 5500kms.
-- Missed my flight for the first time. (courtesy: Air Deccan)
-- Missed a serious accident in Bangalore.
-- Saw 2 hindi movies in silver screen after 2 and half years. (RDB is awesome).
Our lives, our future even the coming hour is uncertain..We take that kind of uncertainity for granted and we move on...The last couple of weeks has been for me uncertainity to max...so far, so good...

Kingfisher Rocks !!!!

This is the first time i have traveled on the domestic route by air in India. Recently I flew from delhi to Bangalore by kingfisher airlines...This airline rocks...Right when you enter the airport..these King fisher guys/staff are waiting for you to help you out with your baggage , These staff dressed in red are allround to help you out whether its luggage , ticketing..... The annoucements itself is so different in comparison to the other...

Kingfisher fleet is a fleet of new aircraft mainly A320's with awesome interiors with LCD screen for each person. Kingfisher add the class truly to its economy seats. The flight time from Bangkok to Bangalore by TG is 3 hr 40 minutes(1544 kms)..wheras the flight time by KF from Delhi to Bangalore in 2 hrs 30 minutes, despite the fact that the distance between the 2 cities is around 1700kms. regarding the cost of the ticket, this is more of full service airline with costing in between that of low cost and established full service airlines...

The Airhostesses are Smart, Charming and are pro's. As Vijay Mallya, put it.." i want our guests to be treated as they are treated in my house".One interesting thing, i noticed that..they have this feedback form and there are questions regarding their staff service, eg..if you remember anybody who has done exceptional service to you...that acts as a an incentive for staff to perform much better...It is really a matter of pride , to see and Indian Airline offering world class service. This is an Airline for a long innings. if you are flying in the domestic route "Enjoy the Kingfisher Class"...

India-US Nuclear Deal - A strategic fit or mismatch

BUSH in India…that’s Hot news on every page. News in favor and in protest of the US President. What does this nuclear deal mean to India? Why this so called “land mark” step forward by the US? More importantly why now? Why the change? What concrete assistance does India need from the US to further our civilian nuclear programme? Is it possible to have a deal without India having to make unacceptable compromises? What is it that the US wants in return from us for this cooperation? And, what are the short-term and long-term strategic implications of such cooperation?
Well, one way this deal is the affirmation of India as a global responsible power. First and the foremost advantage for this deal is getting access to the nuclear technology know how for power generation. The existing capacity is limited, intermittent and primarily dependent on fossil, and is hindering growth of the economy. Still its a norm in villages to have power just for 4 hours per day…and frequent power cuts in the cities. There is a huge power deficit, which is on rise. As the economy grows , so will be the demand for power, This increases the demand for the raw material putting pressure in the world market. Just as the case of increase of Oil Imports.

But there are also reports that, highlights the Nuclear deal is not in favor as, India today has 14 operating nuclear power reactors and nine more are under various stages of construction or commissioning. A detailed examination reveals that the US has no current experience in any of the types of nuclear reactors India is presently operating or constructing. Therefore, the Atomic e energy scientists certainly realises that the US has no worthwhile knowledge in the design, construction, operation, maintenance or safety of any of the present or future installations of the Indian nuclear power programme.

Apart from the energy context, I also think that this nuclear deal act as a leverage for the US to counterweight the rise of China. Well its also true that China is much bigger trading partner with US. But the similarities in the 2 largest democracies make INDIA & US a better strategic fit. I thinks it is in India's interest to work with the US, to have a growth. From the post cold war time, where in India was more of an ally of Soviets have made the US wary of India and enabled pakistan to be a closer ally of US. What is most important is India should make useof knowhow, technology of US to be Self-Reliant.

Facts:
India has 14 reactors in commercial operation and nine under construction.
Nuclear power supplies about 3% of India's electricity.
By 2050, nuclear power is expected to provide 25% of the country's electricity.
India has limited coal and uranium reserves.
Its huge thorium reserves - about 25% of the world's total - are expected to fuel its nuclear power programme long-term.

Movie Review: Taegukgi (Korean Movie)

This is the first time, I m posting a review for a Korean Movie...Infact I saw the movie in Thai ( Couldn’t find an English subtitled version), so my understanding was better than, if I had seen the original version. But I strongly recommend you guys to watch with subtitles, so that you dont miss anything…The 2004, 140 minute movie would fall in to War, Drama, Action, Family all these...It touch various aspects of human emotion and motivations. The movie is well articulated, questioning the consequence, worth and justification of a war.

"Taegukgi" is the story of two brothers who are unwillingly drafted into the South Korean army following the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950. The Movie opens in the present day when an elderly man gets a phone call. An archaeological dig has uncovered remains from a battlefield, and it appears that they belong to the man's older brother, who has been listed as missing in action for 50 years. Flash back to 1950, when Jin-tae (Jang Dong-kun), the protective older brother, and Jin-seok (Won Bin), his bookish younger brother, are happily living in a town. Jin-tae's beautiful wife, Young-shin, (Lee Eun- ju) runs a shop that is just beginning to be successful. They have two children. Jin-Seon is the hope of the family. He has made good grades in school and has the chance to go to a good university. Jin-Tae shines shoes to help make it possible for Jin-Seon to concentrate on his studies.
War breaks out, and the brothers are drafted. Jin-Tae will do anything to get his brother out of the army to fulfill the family's dreams. The plan he settles on is to win a Medal of Honor to use as leverage to arrange his brother's discharge. So Jin-Tae volunteers for every dangerous mission, and acts with great heroics and valor. Jin-Seon cannot understand why his brother is so reckless and becomes addicted to the violence of battle. Jin-seok becomes horrified at his brother's bloodthirstiness.

We often look at the Valor of soldiers and assume it grows out of a patriotism and dedication to a cause. But, in reality, there can be many factors in that valor -- perhaps loyalty to comrades, perhaps fame and glory. Jin-Tae's heroism is complex. He certainly seems attracted to the recognition and promotion that comes from his actions, but his real focus is on saving his brother, whether his brother wants to be saved or not. There is nothing that will stop him from this cause. He doesn't care how many or who will be injured or killed in the process, as long as his brother can go home. Love can make you do anything...

From the days of Austerity to Days of Yeh dil mange more...Now Consumerism is a Necessity according to many urbanites...This change from Nehru's Socialistic reform to more Capitalistic society, i believe is good for the India at large( Urban and rural)...There is no point saving and keep all the money in bank or under the bed...If you have it… Spend it...You are happy,…The retailer who is supplying to you is happy. The manufacturer is happy, and motivating him to produce more, better goods, pumping up the demand...

I think to a certain extent that Nehru's heavy dose of central planning and socialist policies had retarded the progress. We are a mixed economy (mix of capitalistic and socialistic economic policies), but on a holistic view India is more of socialistic economy...More emphasis was and is on saving rather than spending, reducing demand…the popular advice , buy what is an absolute necessity than , the necessary…Indians have learnt to survive on shortage…finally everything comes to price...but now Indian market is changing from price conscious to value conscious market...what is needed, is a better quality of life…It may be through processions of best of electronics, dress…anything…visiting new place...The world has to offer many good thing in life, what is the life when you cant have the best of what the world has to offer, when you can and are entitled too????? What is the point you export the best of India worldwide, but cant have the same, just because the foreign currency value is higher…Indians also need to enjoy & live a good quality life...( again, perception of Quality of Life is subjective).

I do not mean to write off the unprivileged, but , I m sure tax cuts, taxing the urbanites or subsidies not going to help, unless there is demand…demand will always come , if there is spending... In the next 50 years, India , China, would be one of the worlds largest market…what if Indian supplier cannot cater to that market, esp high value items....Socialistic principle are popular and definitely well intentioned, but does not make economic sense, because of its poor implementation. on the other hand The capitalistic sytem trust the intelligence of man and and leaves the choice of his destiny to him. Better life comes with better choice...and whole responsibility lies on the decision maker..not on the govermnent , society etc who as in the case of india, decide, what life you should live...The only thing that has power is money, not good will nor good intentions. The only thing is "You have to be RICH , but with a good heart…."

Well, I was reading through today’s news paper (TOI, Bangalore edition) ...There was article about right wing extremist, political activist protesting against the Valentines Day celebration. Well this is not so new to India, where there are still people with obsolete understanding of culture...These so called Self styled Culture police, were arrested by the police for vandalizing gift shops and hotels and holding a mock funeral of St. Valentine.. According to them, Indians are aping the western culture...I guess, to their understanding, to fall in love and propose the person you like, is a patented culture of the west, that too if its is done on Feb 14. One of the activist questions? What if you don’t marry after an affair???...I guess this great person has got everything right, in his very first attempt...

I m surprised at the mediocrity of some people's thinking and the hypocrisy associated...In India, 95% of the movies are made on the subject of Love...yet, Love marriages are generally not accepted...Infact , in the same day edition there is an article that says that, Valentines Day is a money spinner second just to Diwali…Archie’s Sold 2 million cards…SMS traffic double that of last year(thanks to services of the culture Police), huge growth in Retails sails of gifts and dresses …most importantly, The demand for Rose so high that, one stick of rose cost rupees 35-40 (85 to 95 cents)…It is widely seen that , one of the most toughest thing to do is to “POP up the Question” … I guess, people are just use the day to make it easier & less riskier....anyways…simbly Luv Madi....I guess to pop up the question to the right person, you dont have to wait till Feb 14 2007...

The survey for the BBC World Service asked how 39,435 people in 33 nations across the globe saw various countries. On average, 35% of the people polled said India had a positive influence, while 24% believed it has a negative influence. Two countries, Iran(71%) and Afghanistan(59%), overwhelmingly voted to say India had a positive influence in the world. The only country with widespread negative view about India's influence is the Philippines with 57% voting "mainly negative".

Great Britain and Russia turned up most positive with over 47% having a positive view of India in the two countries. France and Finland viewed India most negatively - both being 44% negative and 27% positive. Only 47% of Indians had a positive view of their country. Only 10% had a negative view. A total of 1452 people above 18 years of age were polled in India. The margin of error in polling ranged from 2.5% to 4%.

Trip to Khaolak!!!!

I just returned from a lovely trip to Khao Lak, 80 kms from Phuket... Khao Lak was one of the areas of Thailand hardest hit by the tsunamis resulting from the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake...I Arrived in Phuket on Jan 28..The first day was more of rest at the resort..well a fabulous resort..la Flora...Next day we went to Surin Islands...Surin Island are almost 55-60kms from the coastline...Surin was nominated as one of the 10 best palce in earth to be visited...Surin Islands are renowned for their beautiful unspoilt beaches and spectacular underwater scenery, attracting divers from around the world...Surin islands are home to one of best corals in the world...Did snorkelling...when you swim in the clear green waters...You feel just like you are swiming in an aquarium with lovely beatiful fish to accompany you...Next day we had been to kao sok national park...did elephant treking and canoeing in the rivers that run along the national park..You could see snakes hanging in the trees...will post the pix on Pixel soon...in Short ..A Lovely Trip....

Infallibility is divinity. We are not divine. We are fallible. To err is human. Divinity would demand that we realize this irrefutable truth and correct ourselves when we become fallible. The spirit of life and thirst for success and rectitude should propel ourselves to correct our mistakes on our way instead of ruing over mistakes and slips that have been committed even inadvertently. The need of the hour is disciplined action by all citizens. This will lead to the creation of enlightened citizens. Any country is as good as its citizens. Their ethos, their values and their character will be reflected in the country?s make up. They are crucial factors that will determine whether the country will move forward on a progressive path or stagnate. Hence, there is a need to cultivate a sense of eternal values in each of its citizens, instill in him or her with a sense of discipline. The education system right from the primary level has to concentrate on this aspect. For inculcating discipline among citizens, I visualize the necessity for providing compulsory NCC training for a minimum period of 18 months to all our youth either during the senior secondary stage and or during graduation in all educational institutions, both Government and private. This will ensure disciplined politics, business, judiciary, bureaucracy, scientific pursuits and sports and games. All of us have to practice the values of honesty, sincerity and tolerance in our day-to-day living. This will elevate our politics to statesmanship. We have to collectively inculcate a positive attitude of what we can do for our country so that we together will be able to benefit ourselves. We have immensely benefited from what our ancestors did and left for us. We have a right and responsibility to leave a positive legacy to the posterity for which we all will be remembered for. The land, water and sky of this nation are the witnesses. Our righteous toil is our guiding light, If we work hard, we all can prosper. Nurture great thoughts, rise up in actions, May righteous methods be our guide; May the nation prosper ever with Almighty?s grace. Earth lacks the water, energy and agricultural land to allow China and India to attain Western living standards, a US think-tank has warned. The Worldwatch Institute said the booming economies of China and India are "planetary powers that are shaping the global biosphere".

It said the planet's resources could not keep pace with such growth. "The world's ecological capacity is simply insufficient to satisfy the ambitions of China, India, Japan, Europe and the United States as well as the aspirations of the rest of the world in a sustainable way," the report said.

"China and India are positioned to leapfrog today's industrial powers and become world leaders in sustainable energy and agriculture within a decade," Worldwatch Institute president Christopher Flavin said.

Analogy of India & Indian Traffic.....

The following is an observation I made during my trip back to India. I found lot of similarities in behavior of Indians and Indian driver....

India is a land of diversity...in terms of Ethnicity, Language, Culture, Diet, Music, Art, mindset, thinking, education....Similarly...You can see many kinds of vehicle on roads...Mercedes S-class to Maruti 800 to many models of bikes, cycles and even Bullock carts....Engine power varies from 400 bhp to “real horse” break power....power we can attribute to purchasing power of people...

Every person on road wants to overtake (irrespective of his engine capacity (if he has one))...so is the case on the job market...many people want jobs, if have job they want a rise every now and then...They Don’t mind hip hoping from one company to other...it is just as easy as jumping lanes on the road...But you can find many brave people who follow lane disciple and are loyal to the system, for the greater good...
India economy is like the roads....,some straight, some curvy with humps(Bureaucracy) and pot holes(economic scams)...and the roads being of less width ....creating congestion....just like competition rising from a large human resource… Highways are quite good...you can relate it to national policies.....quite efficient, but comes to serious trouble as user volume increase (implementation at grass root level).

Above all.........Freedom of the Indians to do anything…You can see cyclist or low speed vehicle using the inner lane...You can relate to that many in-efficient workers/PSU companies/ bureaucrats/ blocking the way and slowing the whole traffic following... When you are driving, people are honking (helping you to be awake, so that you don’t Doze off on the wheels)... off course, In this system develops hell lot of heat both from the vehicle and the driver, making the drive rough....

Yet The best part of the system is each entity, tries and runs at the best of the potential with special emphasis on cost (sometimes over-use, in case of auto-rickshaws). This system makes the Indians aggressive, competitive, and good in multitasking. I think, India There is demand and supply problem in most of the system, generally the demand being too much...

I strongly believe that, given wider roads (Infrastructure/ Sound economic policies) coupled with strict Traffic laws and lane discipline (law & Order)…The whole traffic would move smooth and fast, in other words India is going to growth at a fast pace and prosperity reaching all sections of the country………..Share and add your analogies...

Church in the 21st century

Recently, I happened to join a discussion on church and its roles in the society. The discussion was more concentrated about Kerala…Kerala is southern state in India , with one of the strongest community of the Christian faith among the oriental churches. Most of the churches have a strong following with loyal parish members. It is common that the whole family attends the Sunday mass at the respective parishes...generally the parish is a social community...well networked and active....In the present world where the church is loosing followers esp, in the west... Asia is one region where the numbers of the faithful is increasing...

The debate was , in the region where church is quite influential the discussion touched various issues ...the front end of church, the priests, using their position for various, political, economical and social gains...In the 21st century where the church is confronted with challenges on homosexuality, stem cell research…What should be the church stand? …Church as any other entity is going through change, some changes that were thought even impossible to think...Adding to that, the church at local level , running propaganda news papers and also is chair to newspaper whose content is low grade .

I think the church is a necessary social system , that acts as reference point, yet subject to perpetual change...In this world where 6 billion people are free to think in 6 billion ways, we need a system that directs the direction ..As we think, let the school not interfere with you education , similarly all I think is " let not the church interfere your devotion and come in between you and God"...

Tata Steel, India’s largest private sector steel company, is close to acquiring Thailand’s largest steelmaker, Millennium Steel for about $400m. Tata Steel has been in negotiations to acquire Millennium Steel, primarily to gain a presence in Thailand that would eventually help the Indian company boost its exports to the rapidly-growing South-East Asian market.

Tata Steel has been talking to Millennium’s largest shareholder, Siam Cementhai group which owns close to 40% in the Thai company. The deal would involve purchase of the Siam stake, followed by an open offer. Subsequently, Tata Steel is likely to make additional fresh investments. The total deal size which includes the price for Siam’s 40%, the open offer and the fund infusion into the company would be around $400m.

Millennium Steel is a construction-grade steel company and makes products such as rebars and wire rods which are used extensively in the building industry. Currently, it has the capacity to make about 1.7mt of steel annually through three manufacturing units across Thailand. The acquisitions are in line with Tata Steel’s plans to have a capacity of about 15mt by ‘10. The company has already initiated plans to set up steel manufacturing units in Iran and Bangladesh.

From Bendakalooru(Town of Boiled Beans) to Bengaluru to Bangalore and now again to Bengaluru, the City has joined the bandwagon, changing city name to initial pre-colonial name. Bangalored, Bang-alore, Bangal-ore, Ban-galore, BA Galore, the City means different things to different people. Chief Minister Dharam Singh made an announced on Sunday that the state capital of Bangalore would soon be rechristened Bengaluru on November 01, 2006. He said that renaming issue was raised during a meeting he had held recently with prominent personalities and litterateurs for chalking out programmes on the occasion Suvarna Karnataka, the 50th anniversary of the unification of the state.

The other cities to change its name are:

Old: New
Bombay: Mumbai
Madras: Chennai
Calcutta: Kolkatta
New Delhi : Nai Dilli or some thing else( Possible in Future !!!) and many cities will wake up and join the bandwagon, i guess.....

I got to think, but couldn't stop wonder, "Whatz in the name???"...well, as the politicos and literary nostalgically say,… Better have the original name than the one given by British...if so, if my memory is right, the british-ers have left India around 1947....why now?...zzzzzzzzzzz????......nope…Its 50 yrs now for the unification of Karnataka state...possibly we can have a new name every 50 years…I just hope the new name witnesses a city, where in people have a good standard of life…

HISTORY:

The name ‘Bangalore’ has an interesting story. Hoysala King Veera Ballala, during one of his hunting expeditions near Yelahanka region, lost his way. After wandering for a few hours, he reached the hut of an old woman. The humble woman offered some cooked beans and water to the the hungry King. He gladly accepted it. Happy with the hospitality of the old woman he named the place Bendakalooru (Town of Boiled Beans). Though this story is popular and credible, it lacks tangible historical evidence.
The name "Bengaluru" has appeared much earlier than the Hoysalas. The earliest reference to the name is seen in a ninth century Ganga stone inscription (Veeragallu) fo-und in Begur village, about 14 kms south west of Bangalore. This inscription clearly mentions the name "Bengaluru", referring to a battle that was fought at that place. Rao Bahadur R Narasimhachar, in his Mysore Archeological Report (1914-15), dates this inscription to the 9th century AD. The place which probably lent Bangalore its name, was a tiny hamlet called "Hale Bengaluru" or Old Bengaluru, where the present Kodigehalli village is located, near the Hebbal Tank. Kempe Gowda I, on building his new town in 1537, called it by this name, as his mother and wife were believed to have belonged to this place.

According to another speculation, the presence of vast stretches of the trees called "Benga" or "Venga" (Raktha honne) in Kannada lent their name to this place. Vengaluru (the place of Venga) became Bengaluru when "Ve" replaced "Be". Yet another theory says that there was a big forest in this area and Kempegowda I, before building the town is believed to have burnt the forest. So the town built on Benda Kadu (burnt forest) "Benda Kaduru", later becane Bengaduru and finally Bengaluru. Bangalore, the name used now, is the anglicised form of the "Bengaluru".

MANY AVATARS OF A CITY

Bangalored: This is a word invented in the United States to describe those whose jobs were lost because their work was outsourced to low-cost India. One Web site was selling T-shirts with the slogan “Don’t Get Bangalored” as a way of telling people about the issue.

Bang-alore: A few years ago, an IT expert at the technical seminar of IT.com suggested that “Made in Bangalore” should be promoted as a brand. There is “Bang” in Bangalore, he remarked.

Bangal-ore: The Bengali community of Bangalore coined the term “Bangal-ore” and used in their hoardings and publicity material to celebrate their community festival.

Ban-galore: In recent times, the entry of vehicles are banned on many roads as they have been made one-way, paving way for the term “Ban-galore.”

BA Galore: British Airways recently knocked out its ‘n’ to announce their direct flights into and out of the City.

Being in Thailand, still my foreign friends are curious about snake charmers..It's an image etched in the minds( Thanks to BBC, foreign news media) , that india is a country of snake charmers...Well recently i came to finds some stats on snake charmers. In India there are:

> 250 species of Snakes.

> 200,000 to 300,000 flute-playing Snake charmers, known as saperas.

These saperas, who earn on average 75 rupees ($1.60) a day are finding it tough to sustain. Animal-rightists harass them, deploring cobra working conditions. Laws forbidding the trapping of wild species, if strictly enforced, would put them out of business.A survey released in 2004 by the Wildlife Trust of India, a private conservation group, found saperas downbeat: 94% felt snake charming, as a profession, had lost relevance. 12% said the reason they stuck with it was, "I like my job". 75% said their income had declined

The gov't proposed some career changes.

> Barefoot conservation educator. Saperas could earn their livings by visiting schools, teaching young people how to distinguish between venomous and nonvenomous species.
> Provider of health services. Treat: snakebite.
> Wedding entertainer. Fifty-four percent of charmers already know how to play the flute. It could be a small step from there to snakeless entertainment. so at special occassion like weddings, festivals they can earn up to 3,000 rupees per person per month.

It's being called the worst computer worm of the year — a fast-spreading Internet threat that looks like an official email from the CIA or FBI but can leave your computer wide open to intruders. The bogus email claims the U.S. government has discovered you visiting "illegal" websites and asks you to open an attachment to answer some official questions. If you do, your computer gets infected with malware that can disable security and firewall programs and blast out similar emails to contacts in your address book.

Sober is known to only affect computers with the Windows operating system. It appears that Apple and Linux computer users were not affected. The email informs the recipient that the user's "IP-address'' has accessed more than 30 illegal websites and that the attachment contains a list of questions that need to be answered. The email also includes an authentic phone number for the FBI or CIA, which has kept their switchboards busy.

Thanks to Greg Chappell. Team India had a spectacular run in the India -Sri Lanka series... 6-1...Amazing ...Special kudos to the coach and the team...In India ,Cricket is a religion. You can find people from all walks of life, all age groups tuned to their TV, radio etc, just to see the match... Cricket deserves so much attention that, the players are considered Gods.It would not be incorrect if I say, that It is easier to get into MIT, Harvard, IIT or IIMs in comparison to getting to Indian cricket team...

But sometimes I think but wonder, Can India afford this game? 10 hours of game + analysis etc...So much of interest, energy and attention is given to cricket... I remember, bunking classes to just see Sachin play...Cricket does means business too, for broadcast cos, like DD, ESPN etc & dont forget the betting.. The ads slots are money spinner...and that too a if there is a match between India n Pakistan ...One key positive thing about cricket is that, Cricket is one thing that unites India unless otherwise people have different identities in relation to region, language, caste , creed and what not... As far I am concerned, When team India is on the pitch...Thatz entertainment to the max....

The move was a reaction to the rising temperature of the club scene in India's version of Silicon Valley -- a reflection of the discomfort traditional Indians feel as their young sons and daughters drift toward Western ways and mores. Outsourcing has brought much more than jobs to the subcontinent. It has created a new young consumer class that wants to go out to drink, dine, dance and date. Their parents, politicians and police -- and their more conservative and often poorer peers -- want to stiff-arm change.The clash is on vivid display in Bangalore. In less than a decade, it has changed from a sleepy college and retirement town to a buzzing city with cafes, clubs and epic traffic jams.The new entertainment order doesn't actually ban dancing, but it introduces tough licensing requirements that make it nearly impossible to have a business that has both drinking and dancing.

Bangalore's club owners and managers say they are being harassed. Police officers rush into their clubs at 11:30, bang on the tables with their long bamboo night sticks and berate customers. The more forgiving owners say that it is partly a misunderstanding: Police assume discos are akin to dance bars where girls in bright dresses twirl to Bollywood hits as men throw money at them. "These guys(cops) don't know anything about this life; I (club owner)offered one officer a glass of red wine and he wanted it mixed with soda water."Club owners and goers are fighting back. Some club managers look the other way if their customers start moving to the music. They post lookouts to tell the DJ to stop the music when the police approach. Owners have banded to form the Bangalore Resto-Lounge and Discotheque Owners Association to lobby their cause.

"Being 'Bangalored' meant losing jobs from London or Boston to the outsourcing revolution," says a chain email from clubbing crusader and Bangalore advertising executive Harish Bijoor. "Today 'being Bangalored' means being left high and dry at the end of a long working day with nowhere to go."...

Movie Review: Lord of War

Lord of War is more of a Documentary rather than a movie...Its the story of Immigrant from Ukraine Yuri Orlov who follows a rags-to-riches trajectory through his trade in gunz and ammunitions. The movie starts of with a powerful clip of a "Story of a Bullet"... From its manufacture in Russia; sales and distribution to armed militants; to its final resting place: the skull of a young African child....The character of Yuri is excellently portrayed by Nicholas cage as a Cold blooded arms salesman who has no problems overlooking the atrocities of his weapons in order to become rich. ...Yuri's supermodel wife, Ava (Bridget Moynahan), and his coke addicted brother, Vitali (Jared Leto), who develops conflict in conscience late in the game to foment a big-bang climax.

This American movie starts of with Russian manufacturing company, Russian defense army chief...African ethnic war...keeping America out of the picture...well, Russian are big arms exporter...what about the USA?...For that … Nicholas cage justifies as "We're told that the 5 permanent members of the U.N. Security Council each sell more weapons than any other country. We're told that our President(US president) sells more weapons in a day than Yuri sells in a year, and people like Yuri exist because the President needs a way to get those weapons sold without U.S.A. Government fingerprints all over them." some sort of justification...
The movie features a sound track composed by AR Rehman "Bombay Theme" ...lovely to hear that... Listen here
The movie shed light on dark satire on the world of warfare, genocide, Blood diamonds...it's thought-provoking without actually taking sides.
It quite simply states: Ammunition, Defense, Guns, Life - You decide.
Fav Dialogue: " You shall never go to war with your self"

Below is a link of website, that claims that, the Pentagon Terrorist strike was fake…It is a startling flash presentation… According to the website, It was not a Boeing 757 flight that hit the Pentagon, but a Missile…The pix to a large extent substantiates this fact…Also there was this Moore’s documentary on similar lines but on a political spectrum: Fahrenheit 9-11...
Anyway, these pieces of info cannot be taken as a solid base of evidence…

But, just extending the hypothesis of a missile hitting the Pentagon, lead me to think “Was the whole Sept 9-11 was fixed”…The possibility is less than 0.00001% though…
Assuming it to be true…I think…Who is the main gainer of Sept 9-11?
Obviously the US...
1…Polarized the World by “War on Terror” campaign…
2… Establishing themselves as the power above anything…
3… Showcased their Military, Political power by attacking Iraq against the will of the world
4… Justified the use of force, on the base of eliminating terrorism…

The theories have long disagreed about one another’s ideas, but most agree on one thing. "If nature makes people sleep away so much of their lives, the reason has to be something crucial".

There are many questions that arise:

1. If sleep is primarily about providing mental rest, why does people's brain remain so active during sleep?

2. If sleep is about providing the body with rest, why do couch potatoes need as much sleep as Olympic athletes?

3. If sleep hones cognitive functions, why does the intellectually lazy need as much sleep as the noble prize winning phycists?

According to scientists, memory is consolidated during sleep. Sleep provides brain cell with a period of downtime that is needed to convert information into learning. Movie Review: The Legend of Zorro

This is a sequel to the 1998 hit” The mask of Zorro” .The Legend of Zorro opens in 1850, with California preparing to vote to become the 31st state. Apart from the political volatility, there are family problem …Elena (Catherine Zeta-Jones) wants Zorro to follow the civil life as Don Alejandro de la Vega(Antonio Benderas) as he is publicly known. But Zorro is busy as there is one or the other problem… Now a husband and father, Alejandro craves a more normal life, but can't quite kick the crime-fighting habit. Elena, wants him to hang up his mask and stop being an absentee dad to their young son (Adrian Alonso).

The Junior Zorro has done a very good job, as he emulates his role model in his school etc. On the political front Zorro foils the sinister plot of a secret group to sabotage California's bid for statehood. The Zorro series is known for its rugged Mexican American feel. The starting fight scene where Zorro appears to save the election is a bit ridiculous or cliché. But on a whole, with bit of comedy here n there the movie is watchable.
